At Humanities Hall, the Department of Psychological Sciences awards the BS in Psychology for Missouri University of Science and Technology undergrads called to apply the scientific method researching the brain system’s effects on how people think or act. Led by Dr. Susan Murray, the 2008 Outstanding Academic Advisor Award recipient, the 124-credit, HLC-accredited degree has a 20:1 student-faculty ratio for engaged exploration of our minds. Upperclassmen select 4000-level electives from five specializations: Human Resources/Personnel, Human Services, Cognitive Neuroscience, Usability of Technology, and Psychology of Leadership. Some follow an intensive 136-credit track for Secondary (7-12) Education certification. Students might also practice in the Subtle Bias Lab, pledge Psi Chi, minor in Psychometrics, participate in the Utrecht Exchange, and attend Early Career Forums.
Online via Canvas, the Missouri S&T Department of Psychological Sciences delivers the MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology for post-grads to learn the human factors that affect corporate work environments. Founded in Fall 2014, this 40-credit STEM program headed by Dr. Clair Reynolds Kueny, a David C. Munz Award winner, was ranked second nationally by AffordableColleges.com. Two-year Web cohorts utilize Zoom conferencing for 5000-level courses like Small Group Dynamics, Advanced Cognition, and Job Performance Analysis. Though optional, students are encouraged to join the SIOP and conduct thesis research with the Perceptual Psychology Lab. Master’s MST internships provide an average $3,594 monthly pay at Caterpillar, Monsanto, Nucor, Edward Jones, and more. Two certificates for Applied Workplace Psychology and Statistical Methods in Psychology can also be added.
About Missouri University of Science and Technology
Missouri University of Science and Technology originated in 1870 when the General Assembly used the Morrill Land-Grant Act to open the first technological college west of the Mississippi. On November 23, 1871, the inaugural class of 28 enrolled at Rolla High School. In January 1875, Chancellor Charles Penrose Williams opened the earliest building on its 284-acre Ozark Highlands campus in Phelps County. Accredited in 1913, the Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy expanded its curriculum to engineering disciplines in 1920. By 1961, it developed the Show-Me State’s first fully operational nuclear reactor. In 1964, it joined the state’s public learning system as the University of Missouri at Rolla. On January 1, 2008, the Missouri University of Science and Technology name was adopted by Chancellor John Carney III.
Endowed for $179.4 million, Missouri S&T now employs 492 full-time faculty training 8,884 Miners from 60 countries in 99 degrees online and in person with 200+ clubs like Best Buddies. In 2018, MST received the Tau Kappa Epsilon Chapter Excellence in Achievement Award. Three years prior, Missouri University of Science and Technology earned the Steven K. Missouri University of Science and Technology Accreditation Details
On March 8, 2018, the Institutional Actions Council for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) mailed Missouri University of Science and Technology a formal reaffirmation letter for Level VI accreditation valid until 2028-29 under its 21st chancellor, Dr. Christopher Maples, who won the Charles Schuchert Paleontological Award. Located 402 miles up Interstate 55 in Chicago, Illinois, this outstanding 19-state Ozark Plateau accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to review MST’s 35 baccalaureate, 35 master’s, and 29 doctoral degrees. Further, some MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology courses are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) through 2022.

Missouri University of Science and Technology Application Requirements
Getting into Missouri University of Science and Technology is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 3,237 of the 3,876 Fall 2017 applicants were selected for 84 percent odds. First-year Miners digging the BS in Psychology must have completed eight high school semesters. Seventeen college-prep units, including four Math and three Science, are prerequisite. On average, freshmen present a 3.64 GPA, 1215 SAT, and 27 ACT mark. The Honors Academy requires ranking in the top 10th percentile with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Department of Psychological Science transfers must be honorably released from accredited colleges with 24+ credits and GPAs over 2.5. The Intensive English program is mandated for 78 TOEFL iBT and 6.0 IELTS scores or lower. Online MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology cohorts need four-year bachelor’s with two prerequisites: Statistics and Research Methods. Strong GPAs above 3.0 and GRE General Test scores over 300 are expected.
Missouri University of Science and Technology has priority undergrad deadlines of February 1st for Fall, December 1st for Spring or May 1st for Summer starts. International admission closes on June 15th, November 15th, and April 1st respectively. The MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology only admits Fall cohorts until June 1st yearly. Accordingly, complete the S&T or Common Application online for $50 (free if before May 1st). Have registrars mail sealed transcripts to 106 Parker Hall at 300 West 13th Street in Rolla, MO 65409. Official testing reports require SAT/GRE code 6876 or ACT code 2398. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Missouri University of Science and Technology is charging in-state BS in Psychology majors $7,976 annually. Non-resident tuition rises to $25,082 per year full-time. Mandatory student fees are $1,626. Supplemental courses fees add roughly $2,310 yearly. Residing at the Rolla campus’ dorms like Farrar Hall costs $5,425 to $9,270 by housing type. All-access meal plans for Havener Food Court are $3,775 extra each year. MST budgets $838 for books and $1,888 for personal expenses. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals $24,912 in-state and $42,606 out-of-state. The MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology bills $950 per credit or $2,850 per online course. Please note the U.S. military rate is $734 per credit though.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Student Financial Assistance Office at Parker Hall G-1 gets 80 percent of full-time MST Miners striking gold with median aid of $8,400 for $46.24 million combined. University funds include the Ameren Diversity Scholarship, Ford Motor Company Scholarship, Balanced Man Scholarship, Doe Run Company Scholarship, Isle Heilbrunn Scholarship, Max Weiner Endowed Scholarship, Roberto Rocca Scholarship, Project Lead the Way Scholarship, Baldetti Family Scholarship, Donald Dampft Rolla Rising Scholarship, and Cohrs-McAllister Endowed Scholarship. The Department of Psychological Science Scholarship has a February 15th deadline for BS majors with minimum 3.0 GPAs. The Distinguished Scholars Award gifts $30,000 yearly for freshmen meeting the 1330 SAT or 29 ACT mark. Filing FAFSA forms coded 002517 opens Federal Pell Grant, Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Stafford Loan, and Work-Study options. The Access Missouri Grant also helps in-state students with expected family contributions below $12,000.
