Two YCP Degrees for Psychology and Counseling Jobs

York College of Pennsylvania appears in our ranking of the 50 Great Small Colleges for a Bachelor’s in Psychology.

At Appell Life Science Center, the School of Behavioral Sciences & Education offers a Psychology B.S. for York College of Pennsylvania Spartans to better understand the brain’s influence on human behavior and thoughts. Chaired by Dr. Jennifer Engler, the 120-credit, MSCHE-accredited curriculum fills eight traditional 15-week semesters with classes like Adult Psychopathology and Applied Behavioral Neuroscience. Since Fall 2018, the Human Services B.S. has prepared York College of Pennsylvania undergrads for therapeutic careers uplifting multicultural, marginalized people. Directed by Dr. Carla Strassle, this 120-credit, 48-month sequence requires minimum 2.50 GPAs during courses from Case Management to Counseling Theories. Both bachelors include 120 clock hours at 100+ internship sites, such as Southwood Psychiatric Hospital, Penn State Health, and The Camp Recovery Center. Majors might also join Psi Chi, serve in India, work at the Counseling Services Office, and minor in gerontology.

About York College of Pennsylvania

York College of Pennsylvania originated in 1785 when Rev. John Campbell purchased St. John’s Episcopal Church land to build the York County Academy and educate Germans. In 1856, it became the York County Normal School & Classical School for Young Ladies. On September 15, 1873, it was renamed the York Collegiate Institute for liberal arts instruction. In 1941, the Institute founded the York Junior College for an inaugural class of 42 paying $425 annually. In 1957, the Board of Trustees bought a 57.5-acre Country Club Road tract for $250,000 to relocate. In June 1959, the York Collegiate Institute was regionally accredited. In Fall 1966, President Ray Miller made it York County’s first four-year bachelor’s college. In 1968, the original Behavioral Sciences B.S. major was launched. That same year, the York College of Pennsylvania name was adopted. In 1975, YCP also merged with the York Country Day School.

Endowed for $152.9 million, York College of Pennsylvania now employs 182 full-time and 264 part-time faculty teaching 4,317 Spartans from nearly 40 countries on its 190-acre, 39-building “White Rose City” campus or online with 100+ organizations like Psychology Club for 79 percent retention. York College of Pennsylvania Accreditation Details

On June 22, 2017, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Board of Trustees officially removed the warning for York College of Pennsylvania after Standard 7 compliance and renewed the Level V accreditation through 2024 under Provost Laura Niesen de Abruna, Ph.D., an American Council on Education Fellow. Located 100 miles east via Route 30 in Philly, this superb six-state Northeast Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to evaluate YCP’s 78 undergraduate and 18 graduate degrees. Further, York is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and Pennsylvania Board of Licensure for Nursing Home Administrators (NHA).

York College of Pennsylvania Application Requirements

Enrollment at York College of Pennsylvania is labeled “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 4,126 of the 5,991 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen for 68 percent admission. First-year Spartans seeking the Psychology B.S. or Human Services B.S. must finish a qualifying college-prep curriculum. Passing GED Test scores of 164 or greater are eligible. Freshmen typically have cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or better. The Class of 2022 reported a median GPA range of 3.10-3.90. The middle 50th percentile had SAT scores of 500-590 for reading and 500-600 for math. Composite SAT scores generally where 970-1140. Mid-range admitted ACT scores were 20-25. The Medical Scholars Program requires a minimum 1370 SAT or 27 ACT score. Psychology Department transfers are test-optional with 30+ college credits and GPAs over 2.0. Up to 75 semester credits graded C- or higher are acceptable from community colleges. Non-U.S. residents prove English proficiency with at least 58 PTE, 95 Duolingo, or 79 TOEFL iBT scores.

York College of Pennsylvania runs an Early Decision process until December 15th for freshmen. Rolling undergrad admission ends on September 5th for Fall and January 5th for Spring. International Psychology B.S. and Human Services B.S. majors must file before May 1st or September 1st. Priority scholarship consideration lasts until March 3rd. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2020-21, York College of Pennsylvania will charge full-time Psychology B.S. and Human Services B.S. majors $9,835 per semester. The annual bachelor’s tuition will be $19,670. Undergrads will cover the $931 university fee and $84 activity fee each term. Residing at the York campus’ dorms like Codorus Hall adds $3,360 for double-room housing each semester. Standard meal plans for Johnson Dining Hall are $2,585 extra. YCP budgets $600 for books and $1,025 for personal needs every semester. Yearly undergrad attendance equals $35,675 on-site or $24,635 if commuting. Attending the School of Behavioral Sciences & Education part-time costs $540 per credit.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in Miller Administration Building Room 138 connects 100 percent of new full-time YCP Spartans to tuition assistance averaging $9,479 each for $9.37 million combined. University funds include the American Constitutional Freedom Scholarship, Gaston Sweitzer Scholarship, Adam Kohler Scholarship, Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship, Trustee Scholarship, Tuition Exchange Program, York County Community Grant, Alumni Scholarship, Sanjay Parekh Scholarship, IMPACT York Scholarship, Presidential Research Fellowship, HACC Scholarship, and Eisenhart Community Engagement Scholarship. The Dean’s Academic Scholarship covers one-third of costs for full-time freshmen with minimum 1150 SAT or 23 ACT scores. Since Fall 2018, the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship has presented up to $4,500 to Honor Society members transferring 30+ credits with GPAs above 3.50. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant and Opportunity Grant, require FAFSA applications coded 003399.
